Ramen Santouka

Lester has been talking about this Ramen store ever since he tasted, Ramen Santouka, located at Central just below Ma Maison. This is a slightly different style of ramen compared to Ma-Rutama. The noodle is thicker, eggier, starchier.

Entrance

Thicker noodle + clear soup base + spring onion + bamboo shoot

If you eat char siew (pork), there are a few different soup bases to choose from. However, if you don’t eat pork (like me), the chicken ramen only comes in clear soup base. Pork ramen’s soup base tastes nicer~ No matter what soup bases you choose from, it is less saltish than Ma-Rutama, I find. However, Lester is complaining about the fats around the meat while chicken ramen has all the lean chicken breast meat (I can’t be sure it is breast but Lester says so). I would say the chicken meat is very well marinated, you can taste it even though it is soaked in the soup. The texture of the meat is really different, probably the way they cut or the part they choose, it is very firm when you bite, not like western food chicken breast meat where you basically “shred” the meat.

Pork Ramen

Chicken Ramen

Not all ramen comes with the shoyu egg. My chicken ramen comes with half of it, pork one has none. You can order the shoyu eggs separately from the side dish menu section. In terms of taste, Ma-Rutama beats this shop. This shop is a bit bland, but tenderness is there.

Shoyu eggs

I forgot to say that each bowl is super duper hot on the outside, wonder did they oven it or what, so that your noodle still maintain that temperature till you finish your last strand of noodle.

I believe everyone has encounter instances when your spoon slips into your bowl of soup. This ramen store has an interesting spoon with a slit cut so that it can lean on the circumference of the bowl to prevent such things to happen. But the bowl isn’t that big nor does it has a steep slope on the side, maybe this invention is not really useful here.

Shouyu eggs

Actually we saw a couple of Japanese customers patronizing the store, then we realise they have many many branches in Japan. I believe they have a certain standing in this ramen market. Some may love Ma-Rutama others prefer Ramen Santouka but they are similar yet strictly speaking different. Maybe you guys can give it a try, this is really individual.

Last but not least, Lester’s favourite: 1 whole flask of water for us to self service.

1 flask of water on the table

It’s been 5 years, I still don’t understand why he can’t start his food without drinks. This is especially true when it comes to eating in food court as we need to take turns to buy our food. Standard procedure will be: I buy my food, then his turn, he will eat half way or even before he starts, he will queue for drinks. If the queue is long, his cooked food is left to “chill”. I really can’t do this leh. I cannot afford my food to turn cold. I will usually say “Buy later lah…” He will say “Cannot lah… Thirsty~” But he could be eating fishball noodle, got soup what~

Throughout his meal, he will drink at least 2 glasses of water (or equivalent up to 2 cans of ice lemon tea if we are at food courts) while I will only sip at the start of my meal and drink again only after my meal. Wha~ Like that stomach won’t get bloated meh?

But he also “fast-in fast-out” type, very fast want to go toilet liao~ So want to watch any long hours movies or concerts with him, you must make sure he empties his bladder cleanly.

Doggie Picnic

Today bring Pipi to Botanical Garden for the very first time. There are a lot of considerations and worries initially. Afraid that he won’t go out with me, afraid that he won’t behave when he is outside, afraid that he will disturb other children or dogs. But seems like my worries are never a problem anymore. My big boy has really mature. 🙂

Pipi is a little panic in the car ride, that is like usual and normal. And i also realise he likes to look out of the window, see the zoom-zoom cars. The picnic started with an heavy downpour. But soon, the sky gets clear.

I think i will bring my dog out more often. Will be a little busy though, keeping a look out on Pipi, make sure no insects bite, make sure the children don’t ga-jiao him by pulling his tails. But i still think it worth it.

First Secondary School Wedding

My first secondary school galfriend’s wedding. Everything is quite simple and down to earth. And dinner finishes like within 2 hours.

Here are the girls unite! These are friends from sec 1 despite we go to different class in the last 2 years, we still sit at the back of the quadrangle (outside art room) waiting for flag raising every morning.

We are discussing: who’s wedding are we attending next?

New Horoscope

My sister told me about the new horoscope, Ophiuchus (蛇夫座), joining the existing 12 ones. This will cause a shift in dates, so you may no longer belong to the same horoscope anymore.

But currently Wikipedia says otherwise. Don’t know when this is last updated.

做个好人

Sometimes i feel very tired to go the extra miles, make the extra effort. I can’t help it, but i just hate to see things not in place, not properly done. Yes, the nature of not trusting others is making a joke on me. If i dun do things myself or see it with my own eyes, i usually dun feel secure.

I will complain and grumble, no doubt. But i can’t stop myself from thinking too far and planning too far. The brain just keep running and running. I hate people who take shortcuts, having double standards between themselves and towards others. I’ve seen many.

尽心尽力地做个人其实不难。可是世界上就是有一些慵懒又不负责任的人,却让想做个好人更难。

What’s Up?

Been very busy for the past few months with school as usual. And there are more things in line for the 3 months holiday.

  1. Internship + internship + internship
  2. Taiwan (again)
  3. Lester’s new logo and name card
  4. FYP preparation + consultations (super worried)
  5. My website revamp (i have decided to move everything to wordpress in future)
  6. Gatherings & chilling out sessions (nikki, call me quick!)

My last project is completed with the joined effort from my dad and my sister. Without them, i will be so so dead. When i need real help, nobody except my family is with me. My sister and dad cut the jems from the time i step out of house to 12am midnight. My dad even slept at 4am to help out. And in return, i din get any cursings, grumblings for the stewpig and time consuming stuff i did. But, we laugh at it and they say “Can you dun do so difficult stuff anot? What your friends doing huh?” And carry on laughing at the pile left to complete. I am so so touched.

I wanted to write about my dad quite sometime ago: why he is so special. I find my dad very different from everyone’s one because he dun behave like one at all. Other than we are young with all the canning and stuff, we are actually closer to our dad than mum. He says all the lame jokes that we cant stop laughing or just roll our eyes and say “LAME LAH”. Sometime we just “tu” or “shh” him straight with all his nonsense. This is how liberal we are at home.

He is the crafty person at home. The thinker. Art and crafts, look for him. Cooking, look for him. Sewing using the sewing machine, look for him. Play games, look for him. You want to cut hair (both human and dog), you can look for him. When you are sick, you only want him to accompany you to the doctor. If you have something really excited to share, you would want him to hear it first. The first person you want to call home when you are abroad, it’s him. So strange, but most of my life circles around this old man. This is how fantastic he is and how close we are.

I bet it is partially because we live in a small house, the only largest common area is the living room. We dun go into separate rooms and stay inside for the whole day. We interact as we watched tv programs. His teachings are often through the form of jokes or stories. This is where we learnt from others mistakes and be a better man. Recently, he so eager to tell us what happen in his friend’s funeral, how unfilial or horrible the children were, and forgets it is 2am in the morning.

He stands as a trustworthy, serious, careful, courageous, creative and most importantly, a person with substance despite of his little education. Sometimes, you just can’t resist saying “Whoa… Mr Low (we call him that at home), you beri good huh.” Then give him a few minutes to hao liao abit and we are done.

And he is very open minded i would say. We sometimes sit down and critise other people’s parents. You’ll be astonished by his remarks. He will say “他们这么年轻, 想法这么老套!” Blah blah blah… I dun think anyone’s dad is so KPO and gossipy, but he is.

My dad is like my everything and my family’s everything. I hope i can keep my temper a lot more because i usually regret what i’ve said. At times, my dad will be so afraid of me that i overheard him telling my mum “不要啦! 阿香会骂人的!” I can’t help but giggle. But dad, my temper and everything is an exact duplicate of yours, if you din realise.

Motion Graphic Screening

Posters done for my elective screening.

What so special about this class is that it used to be for only viscomers, but my batch actually opens up for product design, film and animation majors students. So i theme this: a class of different crafts. There are icons created to represent the various major.

Posters are in red green blue. I think it is quite explainable: the medium output in RGB.

Tata~ More updates on the screening day itself.

Tampines 1 Blogger Mall Tour & Meet Together Session

I was at the Tampines 1 blogger mall tour and meet together session together with Li Xiang. The meeting time was 2pm, but we are slightly late a little. I apologized for that. We met at level 6 which is at the management office. Upon reaching level 5, we realized that there is no way up to level 6 as the lift button and escalator to level 6 was disabled. The only way up is from service stairs.

On the first day, an estimated 111,000 people visited Tampines 1 and on second day it rose to 143,000. All shopping malls are equipped with a human traffic counter at the top of all glass door entrances. I didn’t know about it actually. If you happen to note it next time, it is actually a little black box often mistaken as a sensor.
