The other thing to look forward to is graduation. I dunno why I wanted to get out of school so much. 4 years of studies is indeed too long.

The first show we watched or rather played was as an interactive game called Desperados at CineBlast. Desperado is Singapore’s first interactive shoot out game where there are like 25 of us sitting down on a cowboy saddle and shooting bandits on the screen as they appear.

Cowboy Saddle

At first I thought the cowboy saddle are just dummies, I didn’t know they move! But nevertheless, it increases the difficulty as well as the fun of the game.

3rd Place

I was in the first place during the training mode, but dropped to 3rd place for the final results. We have unlimited ammos, so I trigger happy and half way through the game, I have to switch hands because my fingers are aching.

Extreme Log Ride

The next show we watched was the Extreme Log Ride which is also at CineBlast.

Drop Your 3D Glasses

It is a 3D simulator, so you have to wear the 3D glasses provided. You started out as a log in the Himalamazon being cut and then transported to the other end of a logging facility.

Simulator Cabin

It is pretty realistic as there are 6 axis of movement within the simulator cabin. But if you got motion sickness, I would recommend you to avoid this as the movement can be pretty sudden and jerky.

Pirates
Unlike the previous two shows, Pirates is not a computer generated film but instead it is acted by humans. The story of the show focuses on this single young pirate setting traps around the island for the other pirates as they are looking for treasures on the island. Similar to the Extreme Log Ride, this is also a 3D show, but they added in another D to become 4D. The additional D come from wind blowing at you, water sprinkling onto you, movement of the chair as well as pressurized air being release below at your leg and at the top beside your head. I kinda like the elements in the extra D, perhaps they can include smell as well. The movement of the chair is irritating though. I think the 3D is more realistic than the Extreme Log Ride. You can literally see and “feel” a bee and a bat right in front of you.

A little background on Chingay Parade. This year is the 37th consecutive year Chingay has been run. Chingay used to be a celebration in Penang during Lunar New Year season, with men carrying Chinese decorated floats on their shoulders, dancers, jugglers and magicians entertain the crowd. It celebrates a beginning to a new year. But Chingay is introduced to Singapore in the 1972 as an substitute activity for the banned firecrackers during the festive season.

Most of the crowd walk by foot from Suntec and Marina Square to the F1 Pit Building. There isn’t much way-finding signs sadly, only ushers nearer to the event venue. Spectators are to be seated by 7pm and the recording will start from 8.15pm. Did I not say that Chingay Parade will be filmed and telecast on the following evening. Hmm…

Anyway, this is our first time watching Chingay live. I can’t tell you how great the experience is. You are immersed into a whole experiential performance with themes, exploding colors, extravagance costumes, beautifully composed music and spectacular performers. Watching TV is a sure no kick.

Chingay Parade 2010 is choreographed into 6 segments: Opening, Legendary Tales, Cultures of the East, Singapore Samba, Yellow River and Finale. Each presenting Asia in the most wondrous imagination.

There are a few highlights for the night. (1) Real firecrackers are lit with furious Chinese dragons and lions dances. You never know how ear deafening and smoky the firecrackers are unless you are there. But it makes a memorable opening for the parade. (2) We have Go Fly Kite participating in the Butterfly Lovers’ float. Their LEDs decorated butterflies fly up the air as the story progresses. (3) Egyptians from Joseph & his Multi-Coloured Coat throw bags of rice to the spectators. (4) MPs from Tampines GRC and HDB waved their hands from the HDB float. (5) Tallest and largest dream catcher follow suit. (6) Extremely long Yellow River scene is collaborated with Singapore renowned pianist, Mr Ong Lip Tat. (7) All kids favorite, float from Universal Studios Singapore. Parade ended with fireworks.

So which color section do you sit matter? I think it does. There are some positions where the floats make a complete stop, section like the red one where VIPs are sitting. These are excellent spots for photo taking. Else, most of the floats usually pass by very quickly.

We are looking forward to the Universal Studios float when the host announces at the start of the parade. But to our disappointment, the fireworks come just before the Universal Studios float, drawing all our attention to the fireworks. The Universal Studios float only stop by the red section and accelerates when it reaches our. I only manage to capture a few shots of it.

After the Chingay Parade, all spectators have to clear the spectator stands. A music party is prepared which lasted through 4am the next morning.

There is a lot of things I basically can’t do: type on my iphone, press my remote control, rub my eyes and nose, clean my ears when I bathe, wear my contact lens, button my clothes, wear my earrings, open a can drinks and I scratch myself accidentally for so many times.

As for being a clean freak like me, I’m so concern about hygiene. I have to sacrifice my toothbrush, scrub the dirt in the in-between.

I also dun understand why I feel the nails’ presence every seconds. It’s uncomfortable and painful whenever I try to excert some force with these nails.

So I soak my hands in warm water as per the youtube videos. Water doesn’t really help, but it reduces the tightness between the fake and the real nails. I bathed and further soak them, force them open from the edges, coz I can’t take it anymore. Wrong demonstration, I know. Now I have to remove the glue stains left on my poor nails.

For people who want to attempt fake nails:

1. Remember to put on base coat before the glue, this protects your nails.
2. Clean the in-between to stay clean.
3. Soak your hands in warm water (that probably will take 1 hour) before they can be easily removed. Or visit the nail parlor, they do have services and solution for removing these nails.
4. Always leave this to a professional.

I gave a box of fake nails to Bong Laily and my sister. Hope they have better luck in this than me.
